Our History

Learn about our journey and the milestones we've achieved.

Central Bukidnon Institute was established in answer to the need for a secondary school in Barangay Bagontaas. Before the school year 1967-1968, there was no high school in Bagontaas. Since almost all of the parents in this place could not afford to send their children to high school away from Bagontaas, it was their ardent desire to have a secondary school put up in this place. Some parents' acquaintance with the late Mr. Alfonso B. Bulahan led them to seek his assistance in establishing this school. Soon after the necessary papers were accomplished, a permit to open the school was granted. So, the school opened in July 1967 with 75 first-year students and 2 teachers, Mr. Orville M. Bulahan and Ms. Polecena Garin (now Mrs. Opao).

In the second year of operation, two two-room concrete buildings were built in its present location on one hectare of land donated by the late Mr. Emilio Gequillana. Since then, every year enrollment steadily increased. In 1970, two more rooms were added to each of the two buildings to house the first-year to third-year classes. In April 1971, the school marked its first milestone in history - the graduation of 47 senior graduates. Effective June 2, 1975, the school was granted Government Recognition for Complete Secondary Day Courses.

Due to the demand for more rooms to accommodate the school's yearly increasing enrollment, a two-storey building was erected. The addition of the school's auditorium further facilitated the school's programs and activities. In the school year 1990-1991, the school had its highest enrollment of 600 students from first year to fourth year. Even with the increasing number of students, the quality was never sacrificed. Students from neighboring barangays flocked to this school because of its good instruction and discipline. Her NCEE and later NSAT records are evidence of this fact.

The varied programs and co-curricular activities of the school have made it stand out. It was indeed a feat when in December 1996, the school's official singing group ventured to Thailand. It was their first taste of real success as a singing group. Then, in the summer of 1997, God made it possible for them to share their singing ministry with several schools in Korea. In the following year, the group made it to the U.S. It was unbelievable that a humble, typical rural school could make it to the United States twice. But indeed, it was by God's providence together with the school's dedication to developing her students' talent to become "world-class" and globally competitive.

The school is committed to providing quality and affordable Christian education that harmoniously develops the physical, mental, social, and spiritual powers that enable the youth to attain academic as well as moral excellence. Three of its alumni are worth mentioning: Jhoe Marvin F. Blaza, who topped the National Licensure Board Exam for Optometrists; Kristine Ann T. Panal, 10th placer of the Nursing Board Exam in June 2008; and Russel Van R. Roa, second placer in the Agriculturists Licensure Exam in October 2016.
